Halloween Symbols - Part 1

Hi People!!!

As you may know, The Greatest American holiday is coming: HALLOWEEN!!!

I don't really know why but I looooooove halloween time!!

I guess it's because of the symbols and customs and costumes huahauha!!

Well, in order to get you guys prepared for this special date whick is on OCTOBER 31ST i've decided to explain a litle about it everyday, so today we're starting with the JACK O LANTERN!

Jack-o'-lantern: The Jack-o-lantern custom probably comes from Irish folklore. As the tale is told, a man named Jack, who was notorious as a drunkard and trickster, tricked Satan into climbing a tree. Jack then carved an image of a cross in the tree's trunk, trapping the devil up the tree. Jack made a deal with the devil that, if he would never tempt him again, he would promise to let him down the tree.

According to the folk tale, after Jack died, he was denied entrance to Heaven because of his evil ways, but he was also denied access to Hell because he had tricked the devil. Instead, the devil gave him a single ember to light his way through the frigid darkness. The ember was placed inside a hollowed-out turnip to keep it glowing longer.

The Irish used turnips as their "Jack's lanterns" originally. But when the immigrants came to America, they found that pumpkins were far more plentiful than turnips. So the Jack-O-Lantern in America was a hollowed-out pumpkin, lit with an ember.

HOMEWORK!!! knowing your learning style!

            There is something unique about the way each person learns language. If you are considering spending more time on improving your knowledge of English, it could be helpful to become more aware of your unique way of grasping and coding language. Gaining greater awareness of your personal learning and coding style can help you to develop a study strategy that works.   What kinds of learning activities are most enjoyable for you? What helps you most in remembering new words, idioms and grammatical structures?  When you try to recall words you have learned, are your memories of them visual?  That is, do you inwardly “see” the words written out in your mind’s eye?  Or, do you inwardly “hear” them in your mind’s ear? Or perhaps you feel the words and have a sense of moving with their rhythm. In making a study plan, it is important to Consider what to learn but also how to learn it.The more you know about how you best take in and retain language, the better the chances you can develop a study plan that is successful because it fits your learning style.

The way each of us processes information is very individual and personal. It can be interesting and useful to hear how each of us does it.  We can get ideas from each other about methods of learning—and also appreciate the very diverse ways that the human mind can work.

HOMEWORK!!!

Write two -- three paragraphs (about one side of a page) explaining how you tend to remember new words or grammatical items.  When you recall a word or expression, do you inwardly “see” the word in your mind’s eye?  Or do you inwardly “hear” the word or remember how it sounded when you heard someone say it in a particular situation (or in a film or TV program)?  Do you have any other way of recalling words?  Give an example of a word or expression you wanted to remember and how you succeeded in doing so.

3. Read the transcript (the text) a couple of times while you listen.

4. Listen again, this time without reading the text.

5. Come back another time and listen again without looking at the text (how much did you remember?).

Learn English vocabulary using Music!!

Vocabulary needs to be revised again and again. Well, what could be better than studying vocabulary by listening to your favourite songs?

Read the lyrics first and try to understand them. You don’t have to translate the lyrics word by word, just try to find out what the song is all about. (Note: ‘Rap’ might not be practical as those songs usually contain slang words that not even ‘ordinary’ English native speakers know.)

Pick some words or phrases from the song that you would like to learn. If necessary, look up their exact meaning in a dictionary. A dictionary might also be useful to find other interesting phrases with the word.

Now, to learn the vocabulary, all you have to do is listening to the song again and again (that shouldn’t be a problem if it’s one of your favourite songs).

Let the music turn you on!!!

PHELPS DIET

For a common person, Phelps´diet is guaranteed record - of obesity

The breakfast of the biggest Olympic champion of all time starts with two cups of coffee and three fried egg sandwiches filled with cheese, tomatoes, fried onions, lettuce and mayonnaise.

Do you think it's only these?? No..., it still has an omelet with five eggs, cereals, three pieces of toast with sugar and three chocolate pancakes .

Lunch is enriched macaroni and two sandwiches of ham and cheese with mayonnaise on white bread, accompanied by energy drinks. The energy drink comes back around the dinner, when Phelps closed the day with a pizza (an entire one!) and a half pound of macaroni.

If you wake up today, had lunch with Michael Phelps and tried to catch him up on the table (as in the pool is difficult…), you'd probably end your day in a hospital gurney, with indigestion.

If you decide to continue to follow "Phelps' diet", the only record you'd achieve would be the"arrival at the rate of obesity in less time."

The prodigy child of the Olympic Games in Beijing said in an interview released this Wednesday (13) to the American network NBC that consumes no less than 12 thousand calories a day. Every time he sits for a meal, he eats 4 thousand calories - twice what the doctors recommend for a common person for a full day; overall, the feeding of Phelps leads six times more calories than a mortal like me reles and you.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial, near Keystone, South Dakota, is a monumental granite sculpture by Gutzon Borglum (1867–1941), located within the United States Presidential Memorial that represents the first 150 years of the history of the United States of America.
With 60-foot (18 m) sculptures of the heads of former United States presidents (left to right): George Washington (1732–1799),
Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826),
Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919),
and Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865).
The entire memorial covers 1,278.45 acres (5.17 km2) and is 5,725 feet (1,745 m) above sea level.

Inside Madonna's 50th Birthday Bash

Fifty has never looked so fabulous!

Madonna celebrated her 50th birthday Saturday at a trendy London club Volstead.

"It was a small party," a source confirms to PEOPLE.

"A private event for her close family and friends. It was low key."

And despite lingering rumors of marital strife, the elaborate bash was organized by her husband Guy Ritchie.

"She looks better now than she ever has done," her director husband told the 90 gathered guests, according to Britain's The Sun.

"I'm so proud. I love her so much." Highlights of the evening, which had people dancing til 3 a.m. included Madonna's daughter Lourdes serenading her on the piano and illusionist David Blaine performing card tricks.

Later, as the deejay blasted the singer's greatest hits, she hit the dancefloor with Lourdes and sons Rocco and David.

But it was back to business Sunday morning, when the pop star was spotted heading to the gym for her usual daily workout.
